Congress President Sonia Gandhi begins two-day visit to North East
SHILLONG: March 05, 2010. Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Friday began a two-day visit to North-East states, the first in the region as part of the year–long nation wide celebrations to commemorate the 125th year of the Congress.The two-day tour was kicked-off in Shillong on Friday where Congress President Sonia Gandhi inaugurated a super specialty hospital - North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS) and also laid the foundation stone for Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan, the headquarters for the Congress in the region.... Little later, at Polo Ground in Shillong while addressing a public rally, Congress President Sonia Gandhi urged the mass at large to actively associate for all round inclusive development of the entire region.
Talking about the NEIGRIHMS, she said that on the lines of National Rural Health Mission, the need was to have similar services for urban sectors, so as to cater to more people.
“You have given us a mandate and we are tirelessly working hard to fulfill aspirations of all, including the youth in the country,” said Congress President Sonia Gandhi in her address to the public.
