Rahul Gandhi: Congress is building one composite unified India
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi recently highlighted that there have been two Indias, created over the years - one of the rich and one of the poor. “We have to build one composite unified India. The Unique Identity Card scheme will help in making policies meant for the poor and trace the loopholes and thus, bridge the gap between the rich and the poor,” emphasised Congress General Secretary, while talking to reporters. Rahul Gandhi has emphatically stated that his vision is one India and not two Indias. As he has said BJP’s ‘India Shining’ slogan was discarded by the people at large in 2004 general elections. Within the elite structure of the society in urban pockets only, India was shining. He has said, “We believe in the ideology of uplift of the poor and the down-trodden.” Thus Congress party is taking the country in the right direction by building one composite unified India and not two Indias for which BJP-led NDA government worked.

Rahul Gandhi : Aadhar UID card will benefit poor
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Amethi on 20th October, 2011, inaugurated a branch of Corporation bank in Amethi. In a function organized at Ramlila Maidan Rahul Gandhi said that unless the poor people including dalits, adivasis and farmers are not ensured the facility of banking, our country would not progress. “Now there are a lot of facilities in the banks like mobile banking. And many dalits and poor people are staying in villages. Unless these people are connected with the banks we cannot achieve development” said Rahul Gandhi. He expressed his happiness to know that the people who cannot sign could use the thumb impression and avail banking services.
He also hinted that some of the state Governments are not using the Central funds effectively. “Centre has been sending huge amounts under various schemes like MGNREGA and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to the states but these funds are not reaching the poor in the required manner” said Rahul Gandhi. We have been trying to change this, he added. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also mentioned about the Aadhar UID card scheme. “Every citizen of this country will have an identity card as a proof of their existence by the Aadhar scheme. Further the card will include the Bank account number along with the Aadhar Card Number so as to ensure connectivity and transparency and with this the Central funds will directly reach the account holder.” said Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi also recalled the statement of Rajiv Gandhi that when centre sanctions one rupee for the poor only 15 paisa reaches them. He also expressed hope that the new card will help to remove the issues related to BPL card distribution.
Rahul Gandhi also asserted that UPA Government is committed to serve the poor. Only with this intention we made policies like MGNREGA and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. We are in the process of drafting a Food Security Bill too, quipped Rahul Gandhi. He concluded his speech by thanking all the people assembled and also expressed his gratitude to Corporation Bank officials for their support and cooperation.

Rahul Gandhi takes dinner at a tribal’s house during his visit to Bundelkhand
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi , true to his style of function, visited a tribal village Medki, Mauranipur near Jhansi, without any preplanned schedule. Rahul Gandhi knocked at the door of Kunjhilal, a villager, and the family could not believe their eyes when they saw Rahul Gandhi. They were further shocked when Rahul Gandhi expressed his desire to have dinner at their house. The poor family which consists of ten members including Kunjilal's two sons and two daughters-in-law happily served him puri and sabzi. Rahul stayed in the house for nearly half an hour. He then held a village 'chaupal' and heard the grievances of the local villagers. He was on a tour to Bundelkhand to motivate Youth Congress workers.
During interaction Rahul Gandhi took feedback on MGNREGA and also enquired whether they get proper benefit of the scheme. He also asked whether they get the timely payment under MGNREGA. Rahul Gandhi said that UPA Government at the centre sanctions funds under various schemes for the welfare of the people and if the money is not reaching to the people, it is the weakness of the state Government. Late in the night, Rahul Gandhi slept at the local primary school building.
Earlier in the day, to feel the pulse of youths in the economically backward region of Bundelkhand during a camp organised by the Youth Congress in Jhansi, Rahul Gandhi had a detailed interaction for around two and a half hours with the youths on various important issues during Yuva Drishti training camp of the youth wing.
During the interaction he asked the YC cadres to work at the grass roots level, spread awareness among the masses about the government’s version of the Lokpal Bill and Central welfare schemes. The Congress leader made an attempt to know the opinion of the youth on the relevance of Jan Lokpal Bill proposed by Anna Hazare, and also on issues like truth, ahimsa and Satyagraha.
Rahul Gandhi spoke with the youth on the position of candidates in the forthcoming state Assembly elections. He advised the youth how to strengthen the party in the state and ways to progress through good politics while urging them to strengthen the organisation by realising their responsibilities.

Congress working for progressive changes in Hindu Marriage Act
Congress is a progressive party. It is always attentive to social needs. Presently a parliamentary committee is examining issue of introducing irretrievable breakdown of marriage as a ground for divorce without the waiting period of six months. Two main provisions – one is that the six months’ cooling off period between the time of filing of divorce petition and actually obtaining the divorce is sought to be retained. What the Act wanted to do was to remove that six months’ waiting period. It would be better in the super structure of society if the couple had a chance to reconcile and that it should be retained. The second and more vital point that committee examined was the relation to property. Existing laws relating to alumni are there after divorce but with regard to property acquired during the marriage, that property should be treated as matrimonial property and the government should evolve a legal mechanism to ensure that upon divorce, the woman was protected particularly and there should be equitable division of matrimonial. The whole object of the proposed change is to protect the divorced women.

I am committed for Raebareli’s development: Sonia Gandhi
Congress has always set the highest tradition of public accountability
Congress is a mature political party. It has been in the service of our country for the last 125 years. It takes upon itself the responsibility of setting the finest and highest traditions of public accountability. It knows how to conduct government business and at the same time give due respect to the other parties and senior opposition leaders. It was in this tradition that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh offered to appear, if the need arises, before the Public Accounts Committee which is headed by a very senior leader of the opposition from the BJP Murli Manohar Joshi. This confirms the maturity of Congress leaders and commitment towards public accountability. However, it is regrettable that BJP has never shown such maturity. BJP has no sense of public accountability and believes in keeping two faces – one self-proclaimed clean for the sake of public image and the other hidden and ugly face for indulging in corruption and terrorizing those who dare to decent its ideology.

Congress has made coalition system workable platform
To run a coalition maturity and leadership qualities are required. Congress has made this possible in a systematic manner. It understands the importance of like-mindedness and need for partnership on long term basis with due space for coalition partners. Coalition is about compromises. What makes a coalition works is the ability of both sides to be flexible. Yes, there is an attempt by every political party to increase its space and that is based upon the aspirations which come up from the ground. So, considering these realities even as Congress go into alliance discussions in other states, it definitely try it best to maximize the amount of space that it can get while being cognizant about the fact that one need to be flexible in order for the alliance to work. On the other BJP has been utter failure. Even as coalition government it was a bigger failure. At one time BJP entered into immoral alliance with BSP to share power in UP by running the government on six-monthly basis. Such arrangement was unheard of before that. Naturally the arrangement failed to work from the very start.

BJP-led NDA UTI scam was much bigger than G2 scam: Congress
BJP-led NDA government was so greedy for money that it looked for every possible way to favour their near and dears, party affiliates and above all for personal gain of BJP leaders. In every department there was a scam. Public exchequer lost Rs 25,000 crores due to BJP generated UTI scam. No investigation was carried out. Why? BJP was in power, then why not JPC or PAC, why no CBI inquiry, why no Supreme Court monitored probe. Responding to the question as to why he had made telephonic calls to the Chairman of UTI, Prime Minister’s foster son-in-law, Ranjan Bhattacharya, said that he had called up the UTI Chairman for getting some units transferred! Does the Chairman of a mega institution like UTI get units transferred? Vajpayee’s son-in-law seems to think that he is smart enough to fool the whole country. It is note worthy that BJP has been shamelessly demanding JPC or PAC in G2 spectrum case when CBI is already looking into the case under Supreme Court monitoring where in UTI scame BJP did not even held any investigation much less handed over the case to JPC or PAC.

Sonia Gandhi at Subhash Maidan during Dussehra
Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and The PM Dr Mahanmohan Singh attended Dussehra celebrations at the famous Subhash maidan. In a symbolic gesture, Leaders took up bow and arrow in their hands and marked the beginning of the burning of effigies of Demon King Ravana, son Meghnath, and brother Kumbhakaran. Sonia Gandhi also attended Dussehra celebrations at the Subhash Maidan near Red Fort. At Delhi’s popular Ramlila Maidan and Subash Maidan tens of thousands of people converged on this occasion to witness one of the biggest commemorations of Dussehra. The Congress president had earlier greeted the people on Dussehra and wished that the festival brings peace, prosperity and progress throughout the country. Towering effigies of demon king Ravana along with his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhkaran were consigned to flames among splendid fireworks as people celebrated Dussehra across the city symbolising the triumph of good over evil. Dussehra coincided with the immersion of Durga idols in the Yamuna river, marking the end of the puja festival.
Dussehra also marked the beginning of a 20-day period that will culminate with Diwali, the festival of lights. Standing atop trucks, devotees and enthusiasts dressed as Ram, Ravana and their followers recreated the mythological war between Hindu god and the demon king depicted in the epic Ramayana.
Dussehra was celebrated with deep fervour and enthusiasm in different parts of Delhi and in other parts of the country on Sunday.

Congress successfully worked out the urban-rural interface
The Congress under the leadership of Sonia Gandhi quickly realized the dynamics of development were constantly changing the demographic profile of modern India. While the increasing and fast developing urbanization of India is a reality it is vital at the same time to put the ramification or urbanisation into proper perspective. In fact it is the urban areas that provide the maximum impulses for economic growth. Research has shown that urbanization has actually improved the quality of life of women and other disadvantaged sections of the society. However, urbanization has to be rational and planned, and only then can its benefits be properly harnessed. On the one hand, urban areas require for the development the precious input of human capital that comes in from the villages. On the other, there is no reason why rural areas should be deprived of urban type civic amenities. In fact, the most effective and equitable way of controlling and rationalizing urban migration is to extend as far as possible urban amenities to rural areas. This is what Congress has achieved as a result of which gap between rural and urban areas has began to diminish.

BJP-led NDA used Phukan Commission to exonerate Fernandes: Congress
In Tehelka episode which put the country to shame Justice Venkatswamy was appointed as a Commission of Inquiry. The former having resigned, Justice Phukan took over. But Justice Phukan ordered that the Tehelka tapes should be sent abroad for forensic examination with a view to determining their authenticity. Justice Ventakasamy, on the contrary, had already found the tapes to be authentic. But the Phukan Commission reversed earlier orders passed by Justice Venkataswamy. What was the need to check the authenticity of tapes already declared authentic by Justice Venkatswamy? The BJP government kept on giving piece meal extensions to the Justice Phukan Commission for years although it was supposed to give its report in six months. In the meantime General Elections 2004 intervened. Thus BJP government used Justice Phukan in a circuitous way to take George Fernandes off the hook. As a result the country suffered while BJP managed to cling to power for next four years.

NDA government did nothing for poor farmers: Congress
BJP-led NDA government managed to form government in 1998 by subterfuges and underhand mechanism. It was an opportunistic alliance of parties who had nothing in common. There was no agenda for the country. So naturally businessman minded BJP party had no plan or offer for the farmers who still form a large proportion of our country. As a result plight of the poor farmers and agriculturalists turned from bad to worse. Nothing could be more shameful for the NDA Government, and tragic for us all, than the suicides committed by farmers during the tenure of the government. As per the documents of the Union Home Ministry-1999, poverty caused 2,952 suicides, unemployment caused 2,124 suicides and the NDA-neglected agriculture sector had 14,833 farmers taking their lives. In the five years preceding 2004 these sectors had seen an even greater decline; therefore, the figures for 2003-2004 were even worse than before. No farmer wishes to see BJP in power again.
