Concerned with the plight of people of Bundelkhand, Congress (I) has charged UP Chief Minister Mayawati for going slow in implementation of the special package of Rs 8,000 crores sanctioned by the Centre for integrated development of the region. Bundelkhand is drought ridden and facing hunger, starvation deaths and unemployment. Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had visited the region and personally saw the miserable plight of the people. Due to his efforts Centre sanctioned a special package of Rs 8,000 crores for poverty alleviation and integrated development of the region over 3 years. However, even after 18 months Mayawati government has carried out only about 25% of the work and that too is not satisfactory. Sub-standard pipes and sick goats were supplied to poor. Irregularities in the purchase of HDPI pipes have been detected. Digging of deep bore wells and repair of existing well is incomplete. Recently Dy Chairman of Planning Commission has written to Mayawati highlighting the irregularities and need for speeding up the implementation, said Congress (I).
