Congress General Secretary RahulGandhi has accused Mayawati of depriving the poor the benefits of the schemes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The Congress led Central government sent huge funds under the above said schemes to the state but that money was swindled by her ministers, said Rahul Gandhi while campaigning for Congress in the state of Uttar Pradesh. The poor feel cheated because the welfare benefits did not reach them, Rahul Gandhi added. The Congress leader also reminded the people that recently Union Minister Jayaram Ramesh had stated that there was massive corruption in MGNREGS in UP. Health Minister also said that another Rs 3,000 crores were swindled from NRHM funds, informed Rahul Gandhi. Pointing out that the people in the last Assembly elections put full confidence in Mayawati Rahul Gandhi asked, “did she come to you or heard your problems?” Cautioning the people that Mayawati was not interested in welfare of the poor, Rahul Gandhi asked the people to get rid of BSP. Rahul Gandhi exhorted them to give this time a chance to Congress (I) and promised that Congress (I) would ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes reach the poor.
