Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi had informed the people of Uttar Pradesh that that the Congress was committed to implement the Sachar Committee recommendations for the welfare of minorities.
Addressing a joint election rally in the historic city of Aligarh with RLD Chief and Union minister Ajit Singh as part of her Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh, Sonia Gandhi had said the Sachchar committee was purported to study the problems of the Muslims and come out with ways to resolve them.
“The Congress-led UPA government at the Centre is currently focusing on providing education to the Muslims,” informed Sonia Gandhi, adding that the Congress and the RLD aimed at forming a government in UP which would implement developmental projects and ensure progress of the state.
Sonia Gandhi lashed out at Mayawati for committing gross irregularities in the implementation of the central schemes in the state.
Sonia Gandhi also addressed another election rally at Jhansi. She said that the Centre had approved funds for the development of Bundelkhand but it remained unutilised by the state government. “The money was not used for the development of the region...it was siphoned off for other uses,” she alleged.
