Taking a dig at the BJP for its double standards on issues
like corruption and economic reforms, Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi
on Saturday said that FDI in retail trade will benefit farmers. She
kick-started the Congress campaign in poll bound Himachal Pradesh by attending
a well-attended rally in Mandi.
Sonia Gandhi also lashed out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)
government in Himachal Pradesh for not fulfilling the promises. "The FDI
in retail will help farmers earn profit and strengthen basic infrastructure
like cold chains. This will help protect their crop from damage and
decay," said the Congress President.
"The BJP always opposes the central government, it is
their old habit. But brothers and sisters, you have to think whether to give
another chance to those people who have cheated you," Sonia Gandhi
cautioned. The Congress leader also slammed the state government for failing to
make the best utilization of central funds for schemes. "The centre has
helped (the state) a lot but the amount was not properly used," Sonia
Gandhi alleged added.
Himachal Pradesh will go to the polls Nov 4. The results
will be known Dec 20.
