Punjab: Rahul Gandhi meets families of youths killed in Faridkot police firing

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday met the family members of Gurjeet Singh Bittu, who was killed in police firing at Behbal Kalan near Kotkapura in Punjab. Gurjeet Singh was killed during the protest against the desecration of the Guru Granth Sahib at Argari village on October 14. Rahul Gandhi is met the family members of Krishan Singh, the other person killed in the firing. He also met the farmers in Bathinda district and interacted with them.

Bhatinda: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched yet another scathing attack on BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi while speaking at an election rally at Bhatinda in Punjab, on Monday. "We are going to form a government at the Centre this time too" he said. Slamming Modi's double-stance on corruption, Rahul Gandhi lamented, "Modi roams around and talks big of corruption but he does not see the large scale graft in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Gujarat. He has joined hands with former Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, who had gone to jail for corruption charges".

Bhatinda: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi launched yet another scathing attack on BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi while speaking at an election rally at Bhatinda in Punjab, on Monday.
“Congress is not against helping industries. We need to extend all our possible assistance and support to businessmen but it is wrong to give all facilities just to one businessman. For BJP, development means, progress of 2-3 industrialists... Congress wants all poor also to dream big. We want to uplift the weak and downtrodden. But Modi wants only Adani to have big dreams” said the Congress leader. “In Punjab, money meant for people’s welfare, goes to some selected businessmen. But Congress wants development to reach every person” he added.
Slamming Modi’s double-stance on corruption, Rahul Gandhi lamented, “Modi roams around and talks big of corruption but he does not see the large scale graft in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Gujarat. He has joined hands with former Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, who had gone to jail for corruption charges”.
Taking on NDA alluy SAD, the Congress Vice President said, “A delegation of Sikh farmers, working in Gujarat had come to me. They told me with tears in their eyes that Modi government called them ‘outsiders’ in Gujarat. They have been working hard in Gujarat since independence but today they face threat of eviction from the Gujarat government. The SAD, which runs a government in Punjab with BJP, does not utter a word against it”.
“We see posters of Modi and BJP on women empowerment. But BJP cadres beat up women in Karnataka. About 20000 women are missing in Chhattisgarh. Modi government in Gujarat has sent its entire police forces after a woman and tap her phone calls” said Rahul Gandhi in an direct attack on Modi.
“Just listen to the speeches of Modi and other BJP leaders. You will not see even a single word of appreciation about others. Their speeches are filled with anger and hatred. But please also hear the speeches of Congress leaders. We never abuse anyone. We talk with respect even about our enemies” he said further with a comment, ”Modi does not believe in people’s power. On the other hand Congress has faith in its people and their strength”. “Congress is going to form a government this time too after the elections. You will soon witness yet another tremendous growth” asserted the Congress leader.
“BJP and Punjab government blames Pakistan for the growing drug menace in the state. Pakistan may have some role. But what does the state government do? It also has a responsibility to fight this dangerous evil. Please allow Congress to form a government here. We will not run away from our responsibility by blaming Pakistan or America. If we get a chance to form a government in Punjab, the first thing we would do will be to fight this drug menace. We will eradicate this menace once we form a government here. Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi visited Barnala, Punjab address election rally. While speaking to the masses she lashed out at BJP-SAD government for their bad governance. "One side you have Congress's ideology which works for farmer, poor, dalit, tribal, women, downtrodden and every sector of the society. On the other side you BJP's and Akali Dal's ideology which supports extremism, hatred and anger. They only want to grab the power," said Sonia Gandhi.

While addressing an impressive rally organised by the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) inside the Punjab University campus in Chandigarh on Thursday, Congress General secretary Rahul Gandhi urged the youth to join politics to clean the political system. Rahul Gandhi said that the NSUI and the Youth Congress were the only ones to give youths a chance to enter politics. "Doors of politics were closed for you. We opened them in NSUI and Youth Congress. Today, lakhs of youths, who do not have any relatives in politics, are in our organization. When we talked of elected NSUI and Youth Congress in Punjab, other parties laughed at us. We did it and showed to them not only in Punjab but all over India," asserted the Congress MP.

Rahul Gandhi: Opposition wants to halt UPA's welfare policies

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday alleged that the opposition’s only agenda is to halt welfare polices and oppose every pro-poor move of the UPA government. Winding up his two-day visit to Punjab, Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BJP-led NDA, saying they were opposing the policies of the Congress, meant to take the country forward, without basis. "Our government brought FDI. Its meaning is giving the farmer what he deserves; his rightful share. When the BJP-led NDA government was in at the Centre, they were not opposed to FDI. When we (Congress) did it, they are opposing it," said Rahul Gandhi. "We brought MNREGA and land acquisition bill, they have opposed it. They want to stop work. Ask them what you want to do, they will not reply. What Congress wants to do, they want to stop. Because they know that if they let us work, we will change this country. But we will not stop," declared the young Congress MP.

Referring to the opposition parties’ objection to the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the retail sector, Rahul Gandhi said, “We brought in FDI to ensure the right of the farmers to get adequate price for their products. BJP and NDA were not against FDI when they were in power at the Centre. When we implemented it, they oppose it” “When we brought in MNREGA and talked about new land acquisition bill, they opposed it. They, in fact, want to create obstacles. Because they know that if the Congress is allowed to go ahead these development policies, it will change the entire system positively” he said further adding, “They just want to stop us from taking pro-poor measures. “But no one can stop us. We have the support of the youth- the strength and future of our country. Just help development by joining us. The youngsters who have just joined the NSUI are the future of our nation,” said the Congress leader amidst cheers from the crowd.
