BJP fools the people: Sonia Gandhi says in Uttarakhand

Congress President Sonia Gandhi while launching the campaign for Congress in Uttarakhand lambasted the BJP for fooling the people of Uttarakhand. Sonia Gandhi said, BJP is trying to fool the people by changing its Chief Minister here. "Nothing has changed. Neither loot, nor dishonesty. Merely changing chief ministers will not do. The people of Uttarakhand must change the present government."

 She appealed to the people to support and elect Congress Government in the state.

 Sonia Gandhi informed that only 40 per cent of the money given by Centre for welfare schemes in Uttarakhand have been utilised so far, while hardly 10 per cent of money under MNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee)  has been spent. "For the last several years, the people of Uttarakhand have been deceived by the ruling party through lies. Their dishonesty and lies now lie in the open. The then chief minister's mask of lies was unmasked during the Kumbh Mela", said the Congress President.

 "BJP has to be defeated to remove the clouds of danger on Uttarakhand", Sonia Gandhi said.

 Sonia Gandhi listed several schemes taken up by the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre and promised to remove licences for 'kolhus' in the plains. Sugarcane prices will be paid promptly to the farmers, she promised.

Sonia Gandhi slams SAD-BJP Government in Punjab for lack of development in Punjab

Congress President and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi lashed out at the SAD-BJP Government in Punjab for lack of development and bad state of affairs in the state.  She asked the voters to elect a Congress Government in the coming assembly elections on January 30.

Addressing a massive Congress rally at Kapurthala’s Dana Mandi, Sonia Gandhi took the Akali-BJP Government head-on in Punjab declaring it a failure on all fronts. “This Government has failed in its basic duty of serving the very people who had voted it to power, and its leaders did not allow the Congress-led UPA Government’s development schemes to reach out to them,” said the UPA Chairperson.

Despite biting cold and impending rain-clouds, thousands of people from Kapurthala and its neighbouring cities and villages were present at the venue to hear Sonia Gandhi.

Akali-BJP Government blocked development in Punjab: Sonia Gandhi

Congress president Sonia Gandhi while launching the Congress campaign in the poll bound Punjab lashed out at the SAD-BJP government in Punjab for blocking development of the state. The UPA Chairperson while addressing a massive public rally in Kapurthala urged the voters to replace the anti-poor government for all-round development of the state with a Congress Government.

Sonia Gandhi started her speech with a salute to the holy town of Sultanpur Lodhi (a subdivision of Kapurthala district) where Guru Nanak Dev spent about 14 years of his life and attained enlightenment.  Sonia Gandhi alleged the SAD-BJP government created a big hindrance in the development of the state as it had not let Central schemes to get implemented here.

The Congress President said that the Centre had provided funds of several thousand crores to the SAD-BJP government but it did not allow these funds to reach to the common man. Giving figures, she said the Centre provided Rs 5,000 crore under the MGNREGA scheme, but the SAD-BJP government utilised only Rs 526 crore. Had the Centre not provided it the money, the SAD-BJP government would have to put an end to its atta-dal scheme, added Sonia Gandhi.

Attacking the SAD-BJP government time and again in her address, Sonia Gandhi alleged it had not cared even a bit for the poor. Had this government cared for the poor, the number of BPL families could not have increased during the past five years of its rule. It formed only those policies that benefited the people in the government and their confidants, she added. All sections of the society, including farmers and industrialists, had been fed up with the SAD-BJP government, quipped Sonia Gandhi.

Whatever development the state had seen since Independence was during the Congress regimes only, claimed Sonia Gandhi. Be it the RCF at Kapurthala or big dams in Punjab, they were built by the Congress governments, she said.
