The Congress President Sonia Gandhi while addressing the MGNREGA Sammelan said the policy by the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre has given a chance to the poor people in the villages to empower themselves. The policy gave aam aadmi to articulate his needs, negotiate his rights, seek employment at his own will and live a life of self-respect and dignity, said Sonia Gandhi. It helped to empower the poor in the villages and also could provide a feeling of social security. Sonia Gandhi also expressed happiness for the fact that the major beneficiaries of this scheme were women.
