Rahul Gandhi puts forward dismal face of MGNREGA in Uttar Pradesh

The Youth Congress icon Rahul Gandhi talked about the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) while addressing a mammoth turnout in a public meet organised in Dumariyagunj. The meet was part of his five day UP tour.
“What did we do? World’s biggest programme, the MGNREGA – we brought. The thought was that since people from villages have to migrate in absence of employment so we should create employment for them. Go to Andhra and ask the women there, they will say yes there have been a lot of benefits. But you go to UP and ask the poor, they will say they don’t get money. The ministers, the village heads take the money,” said the Congress general secretary.
The Congress MP from Amethi added, “We talked of implementing this in the whole of country. We went to UP and put forward our plan before your Chief Minister Mayawati. She told in Lucknow that no one will be benefited. She travels in helicopter. She doesn’t come to your house, doesn’t eat and drink at your house. She said there won’t be any benefits from this. Yes, benefits happened, it happened to the ministers, the bureaucrats, the BSP workers.”
From the last three days Rahul Gandhi has been talking about the failure of the ruling Mayawati government in the state in implementing Centre run social welfare schemes. He has once again spoken about the grave funds misuse under the MGNREGA.
