Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi addressed his second election rally at Salempur at Deoria district of Uttar Pradesh. He slammed the ruling Samajwadi government in the state for ignoring development and also slammed the BJP for its divisive politics. “For the past 25 years, no one – SP, BSP or BJP – talks about development of the state of Uttar Pradesh. But are you getting any benefits from these parties? There is no problem with the people here. The problem is with these non-Congress parties. The youth and women here have tremendous potential but the state government is not supporting you. This has been happening here for the last 25 years” said the Congress MP from Amethi.

Only Congress committed for development, Rahul Gandhi says in Salempur (UP)

Uttar Pradesh is not having a Congress government for the past 25 years. When we were fighting 2004 general elections, we had made a promise to the people that if we win the elections we will form a government at the Centre which works for aam aadmi, the poor, the women and the youth. We had promised that we will take measures to empower the poor and downtrodden.

UPA-1 gave you the right to job. We gave the people the right to job without any discrimination. Lakhs of people could avail its benefits and we guaranteed minimum of 100 days jobs to the rural poor. Opposition raised questions from where we will have money for it. We showed them how can we arrange resources. We also waived off the loans worth Rs. 70000 crore of the poor farmers.

We have now implemented Food Security law which guarantees that no one in our country would live hungry. Every poor across the country is now guaranteed with food grains at Rs. 1 per kilo gram. All the Congress ruled states are implementing this scheme. Uttar Pradesh is going to get maximum benefits out of this Food Security Bill, but the state government here says that it will not implement this till the next general elections. Please put pressure on state government to implement this Bill because Food Security is your right now.

For the past 25 years, no one – SP, BSP or BJP – talks about development of the state of Uttar Pradesh.  But are you getting any benefits from these parties? There is no problem with the people here. The problem is with these non-Congress parties. The youth and women here have tremendous potential but the state government is not supporting you. This has been happening here for the last 25 years.

Ultimately what is happening? These parties make people fight each other. That is what happened in Muzaffarnagar. I had gone there and had talked to both Hindus and Muslims. Both of them told me that there is no hatred among them. They told me that some political parties are inciting hatred among them and make them fight each other for narrow political gains. Who is the loser? It is the common people who suffer – not political leaders or parties.

No one is going to reap any benefit from such divisive politics. Congress party is against such ideology. We believe in inclusive growth and harmony.  We want everyone –Hindu, Muslim, Sikh - to take part in the process of development. This land belongs to all citizens.
These political parties, which spread hatred among the communities, think that they can reap political gains by such divisive tactics.

Remember, such violence take place only during elections because they think that they can win elections by engineering such riots. But I want to remind them that the people of Uttar Pradesh are intelligent. They identify the parties which incite violence and spread divisive agenda.
I also want to tell such parties that the people of Uttar Pradesh will again vote for Congress so that they need an aam aadmi government at the Centre. They did it in 2004, 2009 and they are going to do it again in 2014. They want a government that works for the people; they want a government that realises their pain; they need a government that benefit the poor farmers.

The state government here does not talk about generating employment or industries. Only Congress does so. We implemented right to job, Right to Food, RTI and waived off loans of the poor farmers – all these measures were aimed at the welfare of the common people.  But the people are not able to avail its full benefits as the state government is not properly implementing such schemes. Please put pressure on your state government to implement central schemes properly. It is for your benefit.

I urge the Congress workers here to adopt all possible measures to get the food security law is implemented here successfully. This is the way to support the people of UP. Congress party has been implementing welfare schemes for the benefits of entire people and it is your responsibility to spread its messages among the grassroots. I want every household in Uttar Pradesh avails the benefit of Food Security law.
Only the women and the youth can transform the state. We need more and more women and youth in politics to cleanse the system. We need to empower them and make them MPs and MLAs. We need the people of UP to stand up and fight to change the state of affairs here. You see what is happening in Rajasthan. There is no shortage of electricity there and there is adequate water. We have a Congress government there.  You can see similar development in Maharashtra and Delhi where Congress is in power.

We need to take everyone along with us, without any discrimination, and must bring in changes. I am confident that the people in front of me can do it.

While striking a chord with the people of Hamirpur, in Bundelkhand region, Rahul Gandhi said that though the voice of Bundelkhand reach Delhi, it is not being heard at Lucknow. “Your demands are not big. In fact you need to demand more. You must demand more industries in Bundelkhand. You must think big and dream big. We need a government which works for development of Bundelkhand” he said. “The people of Bundelkhand are crying loud but no one listens to them. The voice of Bundelkhand reaches Delhi but it is not being heard in Lucknow” added Rahul Gandhi.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s address at Raath (Hamirpur) in Uttar Pradesh

Hamirpur: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi addressed a huge election rally at Uttar Pradesh’s Hamirpur area in which he slammed the successive non-Congress governments in the state for not working towards development.

I have a long relationship with Bundelkhand. When you were passing through a bad time, I had come to you and Central government had sanctioned a financial package of Rs. 3000 crore for Bundelkhand. But could you get any benefit? No; because the state government here did not allow those funds to reach you. We had sent money for water and wells, but no one benefitted. I had visited Bundelkhand even after the Centre sanctioned the financial packages. The people there complained that they could not get the relevant financial assistance for constructing the wells and they were in deep trouble.

There is scarcity of water here in Uttar Pradesh. Rajasthan too has the same difficulty. But there is a Congress government in Rajasthan but here in UP, SP and BSP have been in power for the past 25 years. You ask anyone in Rajasthan about the development taking place there. We are building a Delhi – Mumbai corridor now. We are planning for more rail connections and dedicated railway lines. But we cannot develop only by railway lines. We are extending all our possible help for building railway lines and other infrastructure.  But State govt’s cooperation is also necessary. We need to work more if we need real growth. Till your state government is taking positive measures towards development, Bundelkhand cannot move forward.

Let me tell you an example. We are planning an industrial corridor across Delhi-Mumbai connecting Rajasthan. It is the people of Rajasthan who will be benefitting the most by this in the coming five years. Rajasthan will become the industrial hub and lots of people will benefit with jobs. It is difficult to bring in industries on agricultural lands as there can be problems of land acquisition. But such problems are rare in alkaline land.  That is what we witnessed in Noida and Bhatta-Parsaul.   Since lands in Rajasthan are alkaline, we are aiming to set up industries there. Same can be done in Bundelkhand too so that people from there can stop migrating to other cities for jobs. We need more development in Bundelkhand.

Your demands are not big. In fact you need to demand more. You must demand more industries in Bundelkhand. You must think big and dream big. We need a government which works for development of Bundelkhand. We need to make Bundelkhand a Bangalore. Bangalore is said to be the IT city now. When Rajiv Ji initiated IT revolution, people had laughed at him. But he was determined. Now you can see how Bangalore has transformed. I want same thing to happen in Bundelkhand also. We need to connect Bundelkhand with big countries like America.

Congress ideology is not based on any particular caste or religion. Our vision is the vision of Indians. Opposition also talks about development. But UPA built three times more roads than NDA in five years. We also want roads, railway lines and airports but at the same time our ultimate aim is to empower the people also alongwith development. Congress aims to empower the women and the youth.
What did we do in the past ten years. We gave the people the right to job. Lakhs of people could avail its benefits and we guaranteed minimum of 100 days jobs to the rural poor. Opposition talks loud about corruption. But who enacted RTI Act? It was the Congress.. RTI acts as a powerful tool to fight corruptions. The decisions which were taking behind closed doors can now be in public domain. Anyone can get information about government decisions. RTI ensures transparency in public administration.

We have now implemented Food Security Bill. The women here know very well what do they feel when their kids are hungry. Now we guarantee that no one in our country would live hungry. Every poor is now guaranteed with food grains at Rs. 1 per kilo gram. We had to fight long to make this a reality. Opposition ridiculed this historic bill. BJP leaders told that such a bill is useless.

Uttar Pradesh is going to get maximum benefits out of this Food Security Bill, but the state government here says that it will not implement this till the next general elections. Will the people of Uttar Pradesh feel hungry only after elections? Please put pressure on state government to implement this Bill. Food Security is your right now.

Wherever I go I meet a lot of youth there from UP– whether in Delhi or Mumbai. Before coming to power the Samajwadi Party had made lots of promises to you. They promised you jobs. But did they fulfil those? No. The youth in UP wish to put in their hardwork for country’s development but they are not able to secured one.

If you need jobs you need infrastructure. Central government sends huge money for development but those funds are vanished here. If you want proper development in UP, you need a Congress government here. Once you have a Congress govt here, you can see the development like you see in Rajasthan , Maharashtra, Kerala and Delhi.

We want to transform Uttar Pradesh. This is the biggest state in India. The youth here has tremendous potential and power but it is being wasted. There is no proper health and educational facilities here and you are forced to go out. There are no proper roads. You voted a SP Govt to power and you have a young Chief Minister. But still there is no development. The people of Bundelkhand are crying loud but no one listens to them. The voice of Bundelkhand reaches Delhi but it is not being heard in Lucknow.

The farmers in Bundelkhand were struggling in 2009. We heard your voice and we waived off loans of poor farmers across the country. We empowered the farmers; we opened the doors of the banks for them. We extended all our possible help for the people of Uttar Pradesh.

Our dreams are big. We want to make Bundelkhand self reliant. We want to empower the youth here. We need to make this region as an industrial hub. We want to work more. You have a Congress MLA here but he does not get help from Lucknow as we do not have a Congress government in UP.
So strengthen the hands of Congress and we will transform Bundelkhand.

Thank you.

Priyanka Gandhi asks Congressmen in Raebareli to spread UPA policies

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra concluded her two-day visit to Raebareli, the parliamentary constiruency of her mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi. She held meetings with chairmen of gram sabhas and party workers at the Bhuemau Guest House on Tuesday. Priyanka Gandhi also took stock of party's "Congress aapke dwar" programme in the meeting and distributed a kit among workers that would help them in seeking support of the people. She told them to undertake door to door tour of the areas and encouraged them to work together.

A large number of Congress workers, drawn mostly from the gram panchayats and rural areas– attended the meeting. Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi inaugurated a block development office in Salon before attending the workers meeting.

The Congress leader held interaction with the people on Tuesday. She listened to the problems of locals from Raebareli and Amethi — the Lok Sabha constituencies represented respectively by her mother and Congress president Sonia Gandhi and brother and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi. The janata darbar at Bhuvemau guest house ground began around 10 am and Priyanka Gandhi met more than 300 people in groups. The locals came with different requests, from seeking help for treatment of their ailing family members, to seeking better road connectivity and drinking water. Priyanka Gandhi met locals in groups, personally took their applications and assured them of all possible help.

In a bid to strengthen the Congress party in the region, she also met newly-appointed presidents of gram panchayat, Nyaya Panchayat and the block leaders to set the next two months' agenda — undertake padyatras (footmarch) to spread message about UPA's food security scheme. Priyanka Gandhi met about 1000 functionaries. She asked them to target state government for non implementation of the food security scheme and poor implementation of other centrally funded schemes.

Priyanka Gandhi, who arrived in Raebareli on Monday, first interacted with villagers of different Assembly segments of the constituency, and sought feedback on the implementation of the Central schemes, particularly the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) scheme. While interacting with Congress workers at Ghurai village in Khiro block, she also asked the chairmen of gram sabhas about the implementation of the Indira Awas Yojana, and the availability of water and electricity. She was apprised of the incessant power cuts and absence of electricity for most part of the day, as well as the supply of polluted potable water. Priyanka Gandhi also spent time with villagers in the Khiro block.

On Monday, Priyanka Gandhi had met the villagers of Saguni, Hardi, Khushti and Chak Gajraj Kherha and asked for information about the progress of the Centre’s programmes in the district. She also inaugurated a solar plant at Mithunkheda village, built at a cost of Rs. 17 lakh.

Rahul Gandhi wants an aam aadmi Congress manifesto

New Delhi: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi has insisted on many occasions that Congress manifesto must include people’s opinion. The same feeling was expressed by him on Monday in a Congress meeting to finalise the party manifesto for the coming polls when Rahul Gandhi asked Congress leaders to ensure that suggestions received from people are not ignored.

In the second meeting of Congress’ manifesto committee, headed by Union Defence Minister A K Antony, Rahul Gandhi that said all worthwhile suggestions from the people should be incorporated and there is a need to look at the issues seriously. AK Antony, P Chidambaram, Sushil Kumar Shinde, Anand Sharma, Salman Khurshid, Sandeep Dikshit, Ajit Jogi, Renuka Chowdhary, P L Punia, Mohan Gopal, Jairam Ramesh and Digvijay Singh are members of the manifesto committee.

The panel had first met on August 9, which was merely an exchange of views on issues. Rahul Gandhi has been telling Congress leaders for quite some time that there is a need to involve people from grassroot in policy-making and inputs should also be taken from block Congress committees when the party finalises the manifesto. This was one of the highlights of his speech during Congress’ ‘Chintan Shivir’ held in Jaipur in January this year after he was appointed as Congress Vice-President.

Rahul Gandhi in the meeting said that a system needs to be evolved so that the suggestions are collated subject-wise and then considered for inclusion in the manifesto. Union Minister Jairam Ramesh was asked to create a timetable on how to go ahead with the plan. In a rally in Alwar, Rajasthan, on October 23, Rahul Gandhi had launched the party website http://www.incmanifesto.in, which opens with a declaration by Congress.

It has so far received over 4,000 suggestions. The website says, “We invite every citizen of India to give us their ideas and suggestions for the 2014 Lok Sabha Election Manifesto of the Congress Party. The Congress is the first party to open up its national manifesto-building process to the general public. “In addition to this website, the Congress Party is holding direct public consultations across the country to empower the voice of those who do not have access to the Internet.

All ideas and suggestions you provide will be presented to the national leadership of the Congress and will be duly considered for inclusion in the manifesto. Your voice will build the Congress manifesto,” it says. The party has thanked the people for sending in over a thousand suggestions since its launch. Universal free health care, safety of women, solution to the Naxal issue, freedom from open defecation and treating education differently from a product are some of the suggestions that people have made on the website in the last few days.
Rahul Gandhi has been saying that the Congress Party’s manifesto should decided by the youth, women and common people.

Rahul Gandhi in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) slams BJP for igniting communal fire

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi struck an emotional chord with the people of Indore while addressing a mammoth election rally as part of his campaign in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.

We have to make this historic city of Indore the commercial capital of not only Madhya Pradesh but of India. Will there be a day when on being asked about Indore, people in US and UK say that it is the industrial & commercial capital of India?

Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore became top important cities because they were connected with foreign cities. People of Mumbai made Mumbai what it is, same for Bangalore and they were helped by the government. They got the help in the way of infrastructure like you have metro now here. To make the city a commercial capital, you need help, infrastructure. Whenever an Indian wants to become an entrepreneur, he is stopped due to the lack of infrastructure.

I went to Maharashtra a few years back, I was speaking to a woman living in a slum, she told me one of her sons will become an IAS and another son will become a businessman. I told her if she is receiving help from the govt to fullfill her dream. She said no, I am fighting this battle alone.

When people try to come up, they are stamped upon. For example here people who are trying to come forward are being beaten up by the police. What right do the police have? They have been asked to take care of the public. But it is not their fault. I am saying this in front of the police, they should not feel bad. It is not their fault. This happens across the country.

Yesterday I was talking about my grandma and father. My father became the Prime Minister when he was just 40 years old. I was a kid and for me, my father was a here. I am sure, for everyone, father is a hero.

If Indore has to be made an industrial and commercial capital, MP government has to listen to the people.  The people of Indore want jobs and other infrastructure. The day government listens to the public, they day youth of Indore is given power, Indore will become a commercial capital. It has been 10 years, but BJP has been unable to make Indore a commercial capital; frankly they are not even capable of doing it.

Congress party is instrumental in making Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad and Bangalore with the help of the people. When we took computers to Bangalore in 1980, BJP laughed at us, they criticised us saying all jobs will be gone; yes; all jobs are now gone to Bangalore. Congress with the help of the power of the people here can make this city an industrial capital. We can do it. We will use the Central funds properly to build infrastructure and will prevent the industrialists and business houses running away from here.

We must dream big. I don't say that Indore should beat Mumbai or Bangalore, it will take the city 15 years to do so but in 10 years time Indore should definitely be among the top 5 commercial cities. We will give you the infrastructure to do so and you must give your strength to us too..  I will be here to fight with you to make this dream a reality.

The BJP and Congress has one major difference. They say infrastructure is enough for development. I once asked the ministry of road transport and highways what NDA had  done and what we've done. I got the reply that the Congress made thrice as many roads. We make more roads, airports, railways - but we also empower the poor. That is why we implemented the right to food, right to job and Land Acquisition bill. We will never desert the poor. India is not built by roads, it is built by its people.

We need to take everyone in India along with us - every mother, every child irrespective of religion or caste. But BJP believes in making people fight with one another for narrow political gains. That is what happened in Muzaffarnagar. I had gone there. Both Hindus and Muslims were killed. Both Hindus and Muslims told me that there was no hatred among them. They told me that BJP ignited fire. It made those people to fight. BJP knows that they cannot win polls without spreading hatred among Hindus and Muslims.

Few days back one IB officer came to my room. He told me that some of the victims of Muzaffarnagar riots and some of Pakistan Intelligent agencies are communicating with some of the victims.

Who will douse these (communal) fires? Wherever they (BJP) go, there is a fire. What they don't realise is the damage that does. And who does the fire-fighting? The Congress party. BJP thinks that they can win polls by inciting riots.
People gave mandate for Congress party in 2004 and 2009 because India is about love, brotherhood. We don't like hatred.  Only Congress talks about love, brotherhood and harmony. We unite people. The Congress believes in harmony.
All big things that have been achieved in this world have been done through love. Hatred achieves nothing, only gets people killed.

We need to empower the poor, downtrodden, women and the youth. This can be done only by the Congress. BJP will not do it. I want people from the most underprivileged section to be the lawmakers. We must do it. Congress can do it.
Thank you.

Rahul Gandhi in Indore (Madhya Pradesh) slams BJP for igniting communal fire

Rahul Gandhi launches Congress campaign in Sagar (Madhya Pradesh); slams BJP

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi addressed a mammoth rally at Rahatgarh in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh.  He slammed BJP for ignoring the poor and assured that a Congress government will be formed in the state post elections. “Such a government will be of aam aadmi, the youth and of the women here” promised the Congress Vice President.

Before I start my speech, I just want to repeat what Digvijaya Singh Ji had said. The entire Congress unit in Madhya Pradesh is united and we will face the elections with unity and we will win. We will stay together and will fight together and will win the elections and will form the next government.
Bundelkhand is a historic place but it is a victim of the misdeeds by the people behind ‘India Shining’. They never listened to their demands or requests. BJP’s politics is based on the policies for a selected group of people. Their policies are pro-industrialists.

You must be remembering that Bundelkhand was severely affected by drought in 2008. I had visited this place. I visited drought-hit areas of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. I stayed overnight at the houses of the villagers here, shared their meals, faced mosquito-bites, had the water from their wells and also had fallen sick. But I felt happy; I go to the people to know their problems. Our leaders must have the knowledge what exactly is happening in the villages. They must know what kind of life the villages are leading.

When the poor farmers are shedding their blood and sweat for the development, the people behind ‘India Shining’ just gather knowledge from TV only. When they watch the world through the Television, they see only the ‘shining’; they see only the people wearing expensive suits.  They do not know the reality in the villages. Though we sent huge funds for building wells for Bundelkhand, nothing happened. We want that everyone must avail the benefits of the infrastructure. We want the children of the poor people must be able to travel by the aeroplane. We are following a politics of aam aadmi.

Everyone wants development. We also want the roads and all other infrastructure in our country. We made three times more road than what were constructed during NDA's period. BJP did not construct as many airports as we did. We will make all those things, but the question is different. Who will feed the people who walk on these roads and work in these farms? Will they get food through roads and airports? It is the Congress party only, which is bothered about aam aadmi. We want development but at the same time we want empowerment and upliftment of the poor too.

Congress has initiated a politics of granting rights to the people. We gave you the right to job; crores of people availed its benefits. Now we have implemented Right to food. For thousands of years, lots of people are forced to live in hunger. Now we guarantee them 35 kg food grains at Rs. 1 per kg. Indira Gandhi talked about 'roti, kapda aur makaan'. You used to say then we will eat half the bread and bring Congress to power. Now we have changed the slogan. We will have full bread and bring Congress to power. Whatever be the consequences, we are not going to desert the poor, the weaker sections and the women.

Congress will continue to fight for the rights of the poor and downtrodden. That is why we have implemented Food Security Bill.

But, when we initiated the process of bringing this food bill, BJP had tried all their means to block it. They ask from where we will have money to implement this. When we try to introduce a scheme for the poor, BJP raises questions. But when we initiate any pro-rich measures, they keep mum. When they wasted the money sent by the Centre for Bundelkhand, they did not have any queries.
We had to fight for long to make the Land Acquisition Bill a reality. If the land of the poor is sold, he should get the market rate. If the rich get market rate, then farmers and labourers should also get market rate and the people working on that farmer's land should also be compensated. They are now ensure with 4 times the market rate if their lands are acquired.

Could you see any shining when the BJKP was shouting ‘India Shining? Was Bundelkhand shining? Did you avail any benefits? Could you secure proper jobs? What kind of politics BJP is trying to do? Farmers, youth, women and aam aadmi – no one benefitted under BJP rule. The people of Bundelkhand were not happy but BJP ministers were very happy.

We will have elections here on November, 25th. Congress is fighting this election as a single unit. They have promised me to fight with unity. Congress will form a government here and that government will be a government of aam aadmi, women and the youth. It will have the voice of Bundelkhand.

We had helped Bundelkhand in crisis earlier and we will continue our support in future also.

Thank you.

Rahul Gandhi addresses huge Congress rally in Alwar (Rajasthan); slams BJP; lauds Gehlot Govt

Alwar (Rajasthan): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday addressed yet another mega election rally at Kheldi in Alwar district of Rajasthan. While speaking on the occasion, the Congress leader said that Congress party’s election manifesto will have the views of common people.

“Normally election manifestoes of political parties are being made behind closed doors. So the Congress party has initiated a process to incorporate common people’s opinion in our political manifesto.  We want to get the opinion of the common people, women, youth and others in our manifesto and we have made a team to do so. The manifesto of Congress party will be a manifesto of the aam aadmi and we will implement it” said Rahul Gandhi.

Before starting my speech let me tell you one thing. Normally election manifestoes of political parties are being made behind closed doors. So the Congress party has initiated a process to incorporate common people’s opinion in our political manifesto.  We want to get the opinion of the common people, women, youth and others in our manifesto and we have made a team to do so. The manifesto of Congress party will be a manifesto of the aam aadmi and we will implement it.

I see huge amount of enthusiasm in you.  During my last speeches in Madhya Pradesh I had talked about my mother and the incident of her falling sick during the debate of Food Security Bill in the Parliament. Normally people do not talk about such personal things during election time. When I went back to Delhi, my mother asked me why I talked about her in a public speech. She told me not talk to talk about her in future and told me to talk about myself, instead. So today I want to do that; talking about myself.

Wherever I go, I talk about development, riots and other matters, but normally do not talk anything personal. Two of my family members were killed by terrorists – my grand mother and my father. I was just 14 years when my grandma was assassinated.

My grandma was my protector when I was a kid. My father was very strict and we were scared of him. For me, it was my grandmother, who used to protect me on many occasions.. For example, I did not like palak sabji. But my father used to put the dish in front of me and I am supposed to have it. What my grandmother used to do was, she would spread open the news paper in front of my father, blocking his vision from me. I used to shift the palak sabji from my plate to grandma’s using the opportunity. That was my relation with my grandma’ she always gave me shelter.

There were cases of terrorism during those days. People of Punjab were angry. My grandma was evicted from her house after she lost elections in 1977. We stayed in a house of my grandma’s friend. Sometimes, in our political system, one loses everything if they lose an election.
I used to see lots of Sikhs in 1977. I could see them with my grandma too. I can also talk about Satwant Singh, Beant Singh. They were my friends. They taught me how to play badminton. They also helped me in my warm up exercises. In fact I had trusted them.  They were angry and one day that anger tempted them to kill my grandma. I also was angry.

I still remember, I was in school and was in a geography class. Someone from my house came to my school and wanted to take me back home. When I telephoned to my house, I heard the servant maid was screaming. I asked whether there is anything wrong with my parents. She said everything alright with them. Then asked about my grandmother and without saying anything she put the phone down. I felt terribly worried. It was like my heart had been torn apart.
When I reached home, I saw blood of grandma at one room and the blood of my ‘friends’ in other room. I was angry with my said ‘friends’ Beant Singh and Satwant Singh for a long time.  It took me long – about 10-15 years- to free myself from that anger. My anger came down as I later understood that those people were blind with anger.

Why I am telling you this now, you may wonder. No one gets angry so easily. In fact people provoke them and make them angry. I had gone to Muzaffarnagar. I interacted with both Muslims and Hindus. I could see myself in them.  I was seeing my face in their tears because I am also a victim of terrorism. Today, lakhs of people are affected by the menace of terrorism.

I was talking to an intelligent officer recently and he told me that some of the victims of Muzaffarnagar riots want to go to Pakistan as they are angry. He said he wanted to talk to them to console them. Some people incited violence and then ask why there is violence. People provoke the people and make them angry. That is the root cause of terrorism.  Our opposition party does just one thing – incites anger among the people and make them fight each other.  Once riots take place and people die, they just vanish. That is what we saw in Muzaffarnagar and Mumbai.

Why do such things happen? They spread hatred for their narrow political gains.  I suffered it twice. We cannot develop with anger; development possible only if there is brotherhood and love. I am told that it was Shekhawat ji’s birthday. I pay respect to him because after all he was an Indian and was a good leader. If we want to progress, we must stay united. We must fight together , win together and in case we have to die, we must die together.

Unity is our strength and if we stay united no force in the earth can beat us.
Now I want to tell you something about Rajasthan and Gehlot Ji. Just now one citizen approached Gehlot Ji and thanked him for his pension scheme for old citizens. I want to inform Gehlot Ji that the free-medicine scheme initiated by the Congress government in Rajasthan will be implemented across the country.
Women get worried if their children do not get sufficient food. The youth get angry if they fail to secure a job. We understand it. That is why we initiated granting rights to the people like Right to Job, Right to Information and Right to food. We gave right to job to address the issue of unemployment. Historic Food Security Bill ensures you food grain at Rs. 1 per kg.  We enacted this law to eradicate hunger from our country.

Every young person in our country is worried when he could secure a job. I have an answer for that. Our government have started building rail and industrial corridors across the country. This will grant huge job opportunities to the people. There will be more and more industries come up in these corridors.
We are fighting for the people’s rights. If Congress forms a government, that will be a government of weaker sections, poor and the youth. That will not be a government of industrialists. We need industrialists and there is a need to join hands with them for development. We need to build a partnership between the common people and the industrialists to take our country forward.

Such a partnership must benefit both the parties. It must not harm the poor. Their lands should not be acquired forcibly or for cheaper prices. That is why we have enacted Land Acquisition Bill. No one can acquire poor people’s lands easily or forcibly. They can acquire lands only with the consent of the land owners and after paying the adequate price – four times than the market price. This will benefit everyone without any discrimination. Even the labourers working in the lands will have the benefit.

We must effectively use the power of the youth. We need to reform the existing political system. Today the doors of our system are closed for the common people and all decisions are being taken by a handful of people in all parties.  The voice of the women, the youth and aam aadmi must be heard by the political system.

BJP wants to spread hatred and make people fight each other. Such ideology is harmful and pains all section of the people. But Congress party believes in inclusive growth. We take everyone along with us. We built more roads than NDA. Terrorism came down sharply under Congress rule than NDA regime. We will continue our efforts and will take our country forward.
Thank you.

Rahul Gandhi in Churu recalls assassination of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi; slams BJP's politics of hate

Churu (Rajasthan): Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday addressed a mammoth election rally at Churu in Rajasthan and slammed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for igniting communal fire in the country for its narrow political gains.

When I was coming here, one of our leaders told me about the visit of Rajiv Gandhi to Rajasthan. He told me that Rajiv ji visited here on 1987 October, 31st. I wondered as I knew that it was never possible that he had visited Rajasthan on that particular date because as all of you know, it was on October 31st, my grand mother was assassinated. In fact, Rajiv Gandhi had visited here on Aug 31. I used to attack BJP for its divisive politics for spreading hatred among Hindus and Muslims. But I never told you why I was doing so. Today I am going to tell you about it.

When myself and Priyanka were kids, my father was very strict and we were scared of him. That was my relation with my grandma.

She was the Prime Minister of the country and that time I never knew what power a Prime Minister possesses; for me she was just my grandmother.  There was an assistant for grandmamma named Nathuram. Everyone was scared of my grandma, but I was not, as she was my protector.  Sometimes, Nathguram used to come to me and to know my grandma’s mood... and i used to tell him whether her mood was good or bad.

I also had two-three friends there; they used to look after my grandma. Their names were Satwant Singh, Beant Singh, Kehar Singh and Balbir Singh. I was very close to them; one of them had taught me how to play badminton. They also helped me in my warm up exercises. In fact I had trusted them.

One day when I was on my routine morning walk in the garden, Beant Singh had come to me and asked me where does my grandma sleep? I felt that question a bit disturbing. I did not like that question from him. I did not give him proper answer as I smelled something fishy in that.  He also asked me whether I was happy with the security arrangements of my grandma; he also gave me some safety tips to escape from any sudden attack.

I had forgotten about that and very later only I recollected those. Then I realised that Satwant Singh and Beant Singh had planned earlier also, prior to her assassination, to kill my grandma during a Deepawali. You all know what had happened after that. My grandma was assassinated and many of my Sikh brothers sitting in front me know what all took place during that time.

I lost my grandma. When  I asked my security persons about my grandma they told me that though she had received bullets, she was fine. I felt terribly worried. It was like my heart had been torn apart. My legs were trembling. I picked up Priyanka also from her school and both of us went home.

They were very angry. Today, I also know that, the anger inside my Sikh brothers also has come down.

It takes a long time to get rid of the anger. To become angry is very easy but to control it takes time to douse it.  Few days back, a MLA from Punjab had come to meet me.  He told me he feels so elated to sit with me in my room. When I asked him why he said so, he replied that he would have killed me if he had met me before 20 years because he was angry that time.

Why I am telling you this now, you may wonder. No one gets angry so easily. In fact people provoke them and make them angry. Some political parties do so and that is why I am against BJP’s politics. They spread divisive ideology for their narrow political gains. I had gone to Muzaffarnagar. I interacted with both Muslims and Hindus. I could see myself in them.  I was seeing my face in their tears. I want all Indians live together, fight together and die together.

What does BJP do? They spark communal fire whether it is in Muzaffarnagar, Gujarat, UP, Kashmir or elsewhere.  Then we have to go to the people to put the fire out. This is harmful for our country. My grandmother and father were assassinated and tomorrow I also may get killed; but I just don’t care.
This was what I wanted to tell you and now I want to tell you something about Rajasthan and Gehlot Ji.

One gets angry when he is hungry. Women get worried if their children do not get sufficient food. The youth get angry if they fail to secure a job. We understand it. That is why we initiated granting rights to the people like Right to Job and Right to food. We gave right to job to address the issue of unemployment. Food Security Bill ensures you food grain at Rs. 1 per kg.  We enacted this law to eradicate hunger from our country.

Congress party has initiated a politics of granting people’s right in its past 9 years’ rule. We also enacted Land Acquisition Bill to benefit the farmers as well as the labourers working in those lands.

We know there is hunger in our Country. There are rich and poor sections in India. We need a partnership - the poor and rich need to join hands and take the country forward. Without enterprises, industrial units we can not move ahead.
BJP talks about roads but Congress built three times more roads than them. We not only constructed roads but also gave the rights to job and food to the poor.
I also want to tell you something about Churu. PCC President was saying that this place suffers from both the highest and the lowest temperatures. There are issues of water scarcity also here and we have therefore extended the Indira Gandhi canal to this place.

Gehlot Ji has done some tremendous works for the welfare of the people here like improvement in electricity, pension schemes for senior citizens, and free medicines for the poor including for animals.  His government here wants to take everyone along in the process of dev elopement.  We believe in inclusive growth.
Since you want me to talk more, let me share some more thoughts with you. I want to tell you about the future and foresight as well.

I am not here just to win the elections.  I want to assure you that Churu is going to get more developmental projects and I am sure this will benefit the people here, especially the youth. I know that I made a long speech and since I am in good mood now, I want to continue it a bit more. The youth here may have to go to go to various places in our country and even abroad.

Majority of manufacturing takes place in China. Even if I check the mike here, I might see a ‘made in China’ label in it too. Major countries like USA, England, Japan, Italy want manufacturing be taken place in China or elsewhere. India also can be a good option. We are improving infrastructure across the country including your Churu. Churu will soon have more factories in the near future. The youth here will not only get jobs but also will have opportunity to go abroad and will make India proud.

We need partnership to achieve this too. We need to build up a healthy partnership of the poor and the rich –a partnership of the farmers, workers and the government.

We need to reform the existing political system also in the coming 10 years. Today the doors of our system are closed for the common people and all decisions are being taken by a handful of people in all parties. You all have mobiles phone in your pockets – thanks to Rajiv Ji. Similarly, I want the keys of political decisions also in the pockets of our youth.

Positive changes will take place in all political parties after 2014. Take it from me. All parties will be forced to do so. Thank you.

Rahul Gandhi in Shahdol: Only congress can transform Madhya Pradesh

Shahdol: Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi kick-started his party’s campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh by addressing a huge election rally in Shahdol on Thursday. While speaking on the occasion he slammed the ruling BJP government in the state by saying that hunger in Madhya Pradesh is the same as in Africa. “Recent UNICEF report says there are more hungry people in Madhya Pradesh like in Africa” said Rahul Gandhi and added “These people (in BJP) do not know that when there is hunger, there can be no development”.

Sorry for being late. I seek your pardon for it.

There are lots of tribal women and youth here. We talk about government and good governance. I feel the most important thing for any government is to respect its people. Has this government in your state, which has been in power for the past 10 years, respected the tribal? Have you heard about UNICEF? Recent UNICEF report says there are more hungry people in Madhya Pradesh like in Africa. These people (in BJP) do not know that when there is hunger, there can be no development

The opposition parties don't understand that there can be no development when people are hungry. They build roads, swanky cars travel on those roads and that is what they call development. When Congress comes to power in this state, no matter who the Chief Minister is, tribal and the women will be respected and if someone disrespects them, we will deal with them.
When we talk about giving respect to the people, I want to share one incident happened in my life. I beg your sorry for sharing this as it is related to my mother.

BJP tried to block the food security bill for years and we fought for years. It was a historic bill that was passed in India - no one in the country will go hungry after the bill was implemented. Everyone, immaterial which caste or religion they belong to, is guaranteed food grains at Rs. 1 - and Congress Party gives you that guarantee. We do it as we understand your hunger and your difficulties.

During the debate of this historic Bill, I noticed that my mother is unwell. I was closely watching her anxiously. Suddenly I noticed that she left the Parliament hall along with Minister Shailaja ji. I was wondered why she left at this moment when Parliament was debating the bill. I also just went out to see what is happening. I saw my mother and Shailaja ji were sitting in a hall in the Parliament. .. I want the Adivasi youth here also should be able to reach those rooms in Parliament.. I promise you that I will make that happen.. I will ensure that lots of tribal youth reach Parliament.

When I went to the room, I saw my mother and Sheilaja ji were talking. I asked them what is going on.. Sheilajaji told me that my mother was not feeling well. I know my mother; she never tells us when she is not feeling well. She hides it from us. I, therefore, told my mother to go to hospital if she felt uncomfortable. I took her to Kamal Nath ji’s room.

My mother refused to leave Parliament. I asked her why. She told me that she put in lots of efforts to pass this historic Food Security Bill and she would never leave the House till she votes in Parliament in favour of the Bill. Kamal Nath Ji also told her that we have enough numbers to get the bill passed and there is nothing to worry. But she was adamant. I was upset that she did not want to leave. I tried stopping her but she again went inside Parliament after a brief medical check-up. I felt angry and it was quite natural. I too went inside and started watching her more frequently.

I suddenly noticed that she was feeling more uncomfortable. Voting was going on. She went out again. I also escorted her. Noticing that she is not feeling good, I was adamant that she should go to a hospital. In fact, I dragged her to a hospital. I called up Priyanaka  and told her about mother’s illness and refusal to leave the House.

When we were taking her to hospital, my mother was unable to breathe properly and she had tears in her eyes. I asked her what happened. She said that she had fought for the bill and wanted to vote on it; but she couldn't. This is called respecting the feelings.

We talk about food now. I have a mother and there are lakhs of mothers in our country who wish that their children should never sleep hungry. They want jobs for their children. I want to initiate a new politics here. I want to go to the poor, visit their houses, share their meals, respect them and interact with them to know their difficulties. I want these people to reach at higher places.
The opposition parties talk about development, shining roads and good hotels sitting inside their AC rooms. But these people don't want the aam admi, dalits, adivasis to not get into their AC rooms, in Lok Sabha , Assembly or in Panchayats. Who is the loser? It is not Rahul Gandhi but our Hindustan.

When we talk about building roads, let us just examine the records. 2650 km roads were built by NDA in 5 years; but please note that 9570 km was built by the UPA in its 5 years. The BJP government wants to talks about development; but now it is clear that Congress performed better. Shivraj Singh Chouhan had come to us and talked about power plants at four places. But how much electricity did you get? Zero watts: state government has not even started the projects.

On one side they talk about development, but people get nothing. When we talk about right to food, Land Acquisition Bill and Right to Information, they (the BJP) allege that we waste the money.

So many Adivasis and poor farmers lost their lands without getting any compensation. It was the Congress who fought for you. We fought for you in Bhatta-Parsaul, Aligarh and here. Earlier, state governments used to forcibly grab the lands of poor Adivasis or farmers. But now, after the Land Bill, no one can acquire lands forcibly and if the land is to be acquired, proper compensation, 4 times the marker price, must be paid to the land owners.
I see a lot of youth in front of me. I want to ask you whether you get jobs here. No. Did you get education? No.  This is the situation here. But did the government take any measures to tackle these menaces? No... So, I just want to request you just one thing.

The Congress will change the state; we will empower the youth of the people and will form a government of youths here. We will form a government that respects the poor, Dalits and Tribals. We will ensure their rights in their lands and we will guarantee food for them.

We have to transform Madhya Pradesh. The development in the state is stuck now. I see one problem with the people here. We want your government. Only Congress party can do it. Thank you very much for coming here to listen me.
You want me to speak more? (crowd says YES) I will be in trouble in Gwalior and I have to go to Datia too.

I just want to tell you one thing. You see the women and the youth here. I see that there is no adequate representation for women, youth and adivasis in assemblies and parliament. The country will not achieve development until we achieve success in this. I assure you that I am with you in this battle... we have familial relation - it isn't a political connection, these are ties of respect and love and will remain forever.

Thank you.

Rahul Gandhi in Punjab addresses Congress rally; describes Prime Minister as his political guru

Sangrur: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi while addressing a mammoth rally in Punjab’s Singrur, showered praises on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his efforts for development and also called him as his political guru.

When I was attending the inauguration of the Hospital today (Vijay Indra) Singlaji told me that ‘today is the happiest day of my life”. I could see tears in his eyes. Yes.. this is a happy moment. If you have this hospital here today, it is because of Ghulam Nabi Azad who sanctioned it and because Singlahi who applied pressure for this.

You must have heard about my comment on Ordinance (on convicted lawmakers) opposing the same.  When I was visiting Gujarat recently I had an interaction with the media. The press persons asked me about my comment on the Ordinance. I had said that such an Ordinance is nonsense. The journalists commented that I made the statement on Ordinance at a wrong time. I asked them whether my said comment was right or wrong. They replied that what I said was right. So, I asked them whether there is any fixed time to tell the truth! Has that time come in Indian politics that one should search for auspicious time to tell the truth? I want to change this. We must tell the truth if we want to fight corruption.

While I was coming here, I was just thinking what to speak about today at this rally. Even my colleagues in office complain that I do not speak based on the points prepared by them. It is correct also.. I note down the points but rarely use it in my speeches. Today also I was thinking about a topic on which I can talk. Suddenly an incident came to my mind.

When I was a kid, one day my father – who was a pilot like Capt. Amrinder Singh, was about to fly an aircraft. My mother looked at the sky and noticed that weather was bad.  She complained to me and Priyanka (Priyanka Gandhi Vadra) that weather is not conducive to fly aircraft but our father is going ahead. After that, whenever my father leaves we used to look at the sky to see whether climate is good or bad.

Why I am telling this now? There is a reason. I can see good number of women in front me. We all get strength from them. When a mother is scared, a house is also scared and when a house is under scare, entire nation will be scared.
I am sure that there won’t be a single mother in Punjab who is not bothered about her children. The main reason for that fear is the menace of drugs.
We now talk about right to food. I can tell you that Punjab provides food to the entire country. I want to assert that without the farmers of Punjab and Haryana we cannot ensure food security in our country.

But the youth in Punjab also have a fear. They worry whether they would be able to fetch a good job to support their families. The mothers in Punjab fear about the menace of drugs and the youth have the fear of unemployment. These two fears are prevailing here. We need to take out fears of drugs and unemployment from Punjab to take this state forward.

There is no problem with the people of Punjab. You only gave me Manmohan Singh Ji (PM). I have two gurus in politics; one is the Congress President and the other is Dr. Manmohan Singh. I also want to underline that no one else has done so much development work for our country as done by Manmohan Singhji.. You only give him to us. The most important quality of a politician must be good intention. If intention is clear, we can achieve everything. Manmohan Singh ji has a pure intention.

We run a government (at the centre) from 2004. We have redefined the concept of development. People ask us what UPA has done for the people. We initiated the politics of granting rights to the people. What we decided is to give people their rights – without any discrimination of caste, religion or region.
We gave you the right to job, right to education, right to food and right to information. These rights empowered the people in our country. RTI acts as a powerful tool to fight corruption. It gave strength to the people. Anyone can get any information about government activities and the facts which were earlier hid behind the closed doors have now started coming out in open.
Who brought such powerful laws? It is not BJP but the Congress did it. Please see what is happening in BJP ruled states.. what is the status of RTI commissioner.. you can see it.

Congress implemented such laws to empower the people; to give people more strength. Remember, we will not stop.. but will continue with such efforts.
Congress implemented Panchayati Raj system. The youth of 21st century want to empower themselves. Even today, we are not yet wholly successful in empowering rural poor despite Panchayati Raj. Congress is trying to solve this problem. We want to empower the rural poor and aam aadmi.

I also want to tell something about women. Till we induct more and more women into politics, we cannot develop. If we want achieve the expected growth, we want more and more women in politics.

Elections are approaching.  I am sure that Congress will win both the Lok Sabha and next Assembly polls in Punjab. There is no doubt about it. We believe in inclusive politics. We want development by including every section of the society.

I had visited riot-hit Muzaffarnagar riots. Hindus and Muslims died in the riots..I spoke to both communities, they told me, there is no anger between them. They love each other. It was the politicians who have created this rift.  The feeling of hatred was spread by BJP and SP. They told me that the riots were orchestrated by these people. . No politician dies in riots, the common man does. No political leader died in Muzaffarnagar. Poor people, journalists and the person who fight for common people died there. No one had any benefit. It is the poor who suffer the most due to riots. They love peace.

I want to request one thing to Akali Dal leaders. There are a lot of farmers who put in their hard work in Gujarat. Some of them have come to me with tears in their eyes complaining about the atrocities they face in Gujarat. They face the threat of eviction by the Gujarat Government. I agree, they are from Punjab and are working in Gujarat; but ultimately they are Indians first then only Punjabis.

This is a wrong politics and a bad policy of the Gujarat Government. I, therefore, request the Akalidal Government here to please advice your partner in government (BJP) to stop such misdeeds and give back the lands of farmers to your people.

I just wanted to share these points to you. Before concluding, I want to tell that our country cannot progress without the people of Punjab as it ios the people of Punjab who provide food to the entire nation. I will never forget this and I am thankful to all of you for this.
Thank you.
