Claiming that that Congress (I) ruled states like Delhi, Haryana and Andhra Pradesh are developing fast, Rahul Gandhi urged the people that if given chance Congress (I) will put UP also back on the track of progress. What other parties failed to do in twenty two years, Congress (I) would do in ten years and people will start seeing the change after five years, Rahul Gandhi assured.

We implemented Mahatma Gandhi NREGA policy to address the issue of unemployment in the villages by which every poor is guaranteed for a minimum of 100 days’ job every year. The UPA framed policies like Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission to ensure house, water and roads, National Rural Health Mission to provide adequate health facilities for the poor, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan to ensure that every children in the age group of 6 to 14 get proper education, Mid-day meal scheme to ensure food to every children in the schools, Pradhanmantri Gram Sadak Yojana, opened up new Universities and implemented Rajiv Gandhi Electrification Scheme to provide electricity at every place”.

Congress said that BSP chief Mayawati is trying to cover her misdeeds with her gimmicks like promises of reservation for minority community in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

She could have done many things as she was in power for five years in UP, said many of the Congress leaders. What was she doing in the last five years, they ask. Many leaders people including the Congress workers are having the opinion that Mayawati is trying to fool the minority community by raising this issue in the wake of Assembly elections just to garner their votes. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also had talked about this issue during his poll rallies. If somebody has done anything for the minorities, Muslims and backward classes, it is only Congress (I), he had said.
“It was Congress (I) which appointed Sachhar Committee to recommend measures of socio-economic development of Muslims.  The recommendations of the committee have been implemented in Congress (I) ruled states like Delhi and Maharashtra while Mayawati has not done this yet in Uttar Pradesh, said Congress (I) General Secretary adding that no such election lollipops would work in favor of the BSP now as people of the state are fed up with her non-governance and corruption.

Rahul Gandhi: Mayawati stays away from poor and aam aadmi


While talking at a public rally in Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reiterated that posts don’t matter to him and attacked BSP chief Mayawati for staying away from the people.
He said that such posts create hurdles which bring distance between people. “Politics does not mean posts. Posts lead to distance. These posts later take the shape of walls,” he said. He said, “Mayawati became the Chief Minister, she did good work earlier...Kanshiram did good work...but later she got a 40 feet wall built around her Bungalow and stayed away from the people”.
The case is same with Miulayam Singh Yadav Ji, he said and added that he too had done good work earlier.
It is not Rahul Gandhi who has shown people the way but people have shown a way to Rahul Gandhi, he told the cheering crowd. He also lashed out at BJP’s ‘India Shining’ slogan during 2004 Parliament elections, maintaining that those espousing such an idea never visited the poor in the villages and workers and understood their plight. Rahul Gandhi asked whether BJP leader L K Advani, UP Chief Minister Mayawati or Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav ever visited the poor people in the villages and enquired about their problems.
