Rahul Gandhi urges people of U.P “Utho, Jaago, Badlo”

Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that the non-Congress governments in UP, during the past 22 years, have pulled the state backwards.
Rahul Gandhi continued with his leader-aam aadmi theory and reiterated that leaders should go to the people to realize their difficulties. “Till your leaders come to you, talk to you, enquire about your problems they can not understand the factual position” he said and cited an example “I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted.”
“Till a leader goes to the poor, stays with them, eat at their home and drink water from their houses and get sick, he cannot understand poverty,” emphasized Rahul Gandhi. "I go to the villages, mingle with the poor, visit their homes, share their food, drinks water from their well and some times get sick. But I do not mind. I go to them to understand poverty and to understand their difficulties” said Rahul Gandhi amidst loud applauds.  Rahul Gandhi went on to say “when you travel by Helicopters above the heads of the people, all will seem to be good as we do not have to see the dilapidated roads or shabby villages. But the reality is just opposite”.
About the deteriorating conditions in the state Rahul Gandhi said, “The people from Uttar Pradesh are forced to go to other places for jobs. Why cannot they get a job here in their own state? You trusted BSP last time. Did they do anything? You earlier trusted SP too. What happened? No roads, electricity, water, justice or jobs. You gave them 22 years. But nothing happened. Now please give us a chance”.
He then urged the people. “The people of U.P want development. They want jobs, roads, electricity and water here. So please think about changing your state. The moment you will have a government who thinks about the development, the situation will change. If Congress gets a chance the development will be visible in five years and within 10 years the face of your state will be changed completely and the people from other states will start coming to Uttar Pradesh.”
Encouraging the Congress workers Rahul Gandhi concluded, “I know that the people, the youth can change Uttar Pradesh. We should bring back our lost glory. The Congress promised you a aam aadmi Government. We delivered it. We made NREGA, JSY, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and the food security bill is coming.  You have a Congress Government in the Centre who works for aam aadmi and now elect a Congress Government in U.P too for development”.  Finishing his speech he gave the war cry – Utho, Jaago, Badlo.
