Congress (I) has blasted Mayawati government for indulging in scams in areas where her prime concern ought to have been welfare. Mayawati government decided to electrify all schools in the state. Orders for expenditure of crores of rupees were issued and heavy expenditure was incurred. No tenders worth the name were called for and work orders were given to those who quoted the highest rates. Fans and tube lights were purchased but these items did not reach the schools. Poor and needy students did not get the facility of fans and tube lights but Mayawati government made huge money from the contractors who had been shown favors. Electrification was carried out only in documents whereas the schools remain in the same condition as before. Thus Mayawati government made money for personal gain at the cost of education of poor students, said Congress (I).
