Criticising Mayawati for adopting discriminatory approach towards regions of the state, Congress (I) has said Mayawati is biased against Poorvanchal and Bundelkhand regions. Poorvanchal has been reeling under encephalitis which has killed hundreds of people. Handloom industry in this region has almost wound up for want of credit facilities for poor weavers. Similarly, Bundelkhand has been drought ridden.
This fact was highlighted by the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also while addressing a number of rallies as part of his campaign for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. People are facing scarcity of water, power, hunger and unemployment, said Rahul Gandhi adding that more than 500 starvation deaths have already taken place. But Mayawati has not done any thing to help these regions even after special packages for Poorvanchal and Bundelkhand were announced by Congress (I)-led UPA government. However Mayawati government has taken special interest in western UP where large numbers of infrastructure projects have been rolled out by ignoring urgently needed development in other regions of the state, Rahul Gandhi said.
