Accusing Mayawati of looting the assets of the state by selling its sugar mills, Congress (I) has said these mills were worth above Rs 2,000 crores but she sold them for just Rs 200 crores. If only one item of these mills that is land was put to public auction it would have fetched more than Rs 2,000 crores. For personal gain 35 sugar mills were declared ‘sick’ by her. Chandpur and Jarval Road sugar mills were running on profit. Amroha sugar mill alone could have fetched Rs 250 crores but was sold for Rs 17.01 crore. Bahreich sugar mill was running on annual profit of Rs 15 crores but was sold for Rs 26.95 crores. Similarly Gorakhpur sugar mill was earning profit of Rs 30 crores annually but was sold for Rs 34 crores. This scam caused loss of thousands of crores to state revenue, said Congress (I).
