MNREGA money paid to blacklisted NGO in UP: Congress (I)

Slamming UP chief minister for not providing benefits of central government sponsored social welfare schemes to the poor, Congress (I) has said Mayawati paid Rs 56.30 lakhs out of MNREGA funds to a blacklisted NGO.  She has all along been pretending to be working for the dalits welfare while she has done nothing for them, said Congress (I).  MNREGA scheme was to provide guaranteed employment to poor people in rural areas to alleviate their poverty.  But instead of helping the poor, ministers and officials of Mayawati government pocketed the money. Funds were used to purchase items like laptops, calendars, tents and toys for crèches.  Mayawati has ordered at last investigation against 42 government officers and 58 village pradhans who are also involved in a scam of Rs 500 crore. Thus while MNREGA scheme has benefited the poor in Congress (I) ruled states, Mayawati brought about its failure in UP.
