The people of Bundelkhand greeted their favourite young
leader Rahul Gandhi – the Congress General Secretary – when he visited
Bundelkhand again after some gap. A huge crowd was waiting for Rahul Gandhi patiently
though he was late because of bad weather.
The people are well aware of the fact that it was because of the
initiative of Rahul Gandhi the Central Government sanctioned a relief package
for the drought-hit Bundelkhand.
Though Rahul Gandhi was almost five hours late, the crowd
did not lose patience and waited at Damele stadium at Mauranipur, situated 65
km away from Jhansi. “There was a drought. People were starving to death,”
Rahul Gandhi said, recalling his first visit to Bundelkhand in 2008. The
Congress MP from Amethi also said that Chief Minister Mayawati should have visited
the region. Rahul Gandhi also told the people how he had taken a delegation of
the locals to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, requesting for a relief package
for the drought-hit region.
Rahul Gandhi, who had done several such interventions in the
past also had addressed various public meetings in Lalipur and Jhansi districts
during his visit. The Congress leader also said that had NDA leaders visited
Bundelkhand, they would not have ever framed the slogan like “India shining”.
