Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli assures more development


Congress President and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi announced a number of development projects for Raebareli during her two-day visit to her Parliament constituency.
Sonia Gandhi renewed her commitment to work for more development in the constituency. The Congress MP added that the Congress-led UPA government had taken a series of measures to ensure welfare of every section of the society.
Sonia Gandhi underlined the role of education, saying that overall development would be possible only if the majority of the people in the country were educated. “The UPA government has initiated programmes keeping in the mind the needs of every section of the society....development is a continuous process and I shall continue to strive for the development of Raebareli,” said Sonia Gandhi at a function after laying the foundation stone for a road-project in her Lok Sabha constituency.
“I have come here after a long time.....I could not come owing to some personal reasons...I am feeling happy to be here,” Sonia Gandhi said striking an emotional chord with the people.
The Congress leader also explained various developmental projects started by the UPA government and said that it had given its approval to construction of model schools in every block in the country.
Sonia Gandhi informed that the union HRD ministry had given its nod to setting up a Women's degree college in Raebareli after the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. “The work on the project would begin as soon as the state government provided the land”, informed the Congress President.
The UPA Chairperson urged the Union minister for highways C P Joshi to make sure that the projects were completed in a time bound manner and of good quality.
The projects, included construction of a ring road around Raebareli, widening the Lucknow-Allahabad road, besides other developmental measures.
