Having been extremely successful in mobilising the farmers, labourers and artisans of Western UP about their rights and against the land grabbing policy of the Mayawati government, the Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi is now visiting Purvanchal to highlight the problems of the people there.
On the first leg of his two days visit to Purvanchal, he reached Gorakhpur on July 21. He called upon the youth to work hard to revive Congress in Uttar Pradesh and get the state rid of the alleged "misrule" of the Mayawati-led BSP government.While addressing a meeting of the party's youth brigade at Syed Modi Railway Stadium, he urged the youth to come forward to educate the masses about the centre's "people-oriented policies and programmes". He asked the youth members of the party to expose the "anti-people and anti-farmer policies" of the state government. He added that one after another big scams were taking place in the state.
He targeted Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati for the irregularities in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) and said that if a scam of this proportion would have happened in Delhi or Maharashtra then the government there would have fallen.
