Rahul Gandhi visits weavers’ houses in Purvanchal to understand their problems

In his neverending quest to understand and find solutions for the aam adami, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on July 22 visited the houses of weavers’ in Niwada village in Mubarakpur area of the district Azamgarh.
This was second leg of his two day’s journey to Purvanchal. He was on his way to Ballia from Mau when he made the unscheduled halt. He entered the house of one weaver Faizan and took keen interest to know how the loom worked. He also talked with the workers and enjoyed breakfast with them.

The village is famous for its ‘Banarasi’ sarees and home to weavers who have been traditionally in the occupation of weaving for generations.
The Congress leader held discussions with the villagers and their families about the problems faced by them. He also participated in a ‘chaupal’ or villagers’ meeting.
He asked the weavers to bring their delegation to New Delhi soon so that he could take up their problems with the concerned Ministry so as to revive the ailing handloom industry in the region.
It is the effort of Congress to widen the party base among youths and to seek support of the people for the party’s numerous welfare schemes and programmes. After spending about an hour with the villagers he left for Balia. His also visited was at Varanasi.
