Blaming Mayawati government for doing nothing substantial for dalits and poor, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that Congress has brought progressive and welfare schemes for the people of Uttar Pradesh. While speaking at a public meeting in Gunnaur in UP Rahul Gandhi said Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme provides minimum 100 days employment guarantee to the rural people living below poverty line. Poor people do not have to move to cities in search of jobs. The scheme provides them employment in their own villages. At Rs 120 per day x 100 days it works out to minimum Rs 12,000 thus enabling poor to earn their livelihood. Mayawati government had called this program unnecessary. Similarly Janani Saurakha Yojana (Safe Motherhood Delivery) under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) makes provision for free institutional delivery of pregnant women belonging to BPL category. But Mayawati government looted the money meant for these schemes thus depriving the poor needy people of their rights, said Rahu Gandhi.
